Support the Senate’s Education Funding Bill
The moment we’ve been waiting for has arrived: a bill that actually boosts funding for important higher education programs and institutions.
On August 24th, the Senate brought to the floor and passed its Labor-HHS-Education funding bill, which would increase funding for the Department of Education by $541 million to $71.4 billion, rejecting the majority of the cuts to education proposed by the Trump administration. The bill’s a sweet deal for young Americans because it supports programs that will help us access and afford education more easily.
Some of the features?
- Maximum Pell grant award raised by $100 annually
- Increased funding for grants toward minority-serving institutions
- Additional $350M to assist income-driven repayment plan participants who wrongfully believed that they were participating in an eligible PSLF loan program.
The House has got to take up and consider the bill before the government shutdown deadline of September 30th…so basically, it’s time to put on the pressure.
