Tell your Reps: Pause student loan collections during COVID-19 outbreak
As the effects of the coronavirus (COVID-19) ripple through the economy, the pandemic is making it harder for many of us to pay our student loans. We’re being encouraged to stay home, practice social distancing, and self-quarantine. Given that only 35% of young people ages 25-34 have access to paid leave, many of us will be losing out on income as we’re prevented from going to work.
On Friday, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said that the Trump administration would consider suspending student loan collections to limit the economic consequences of the coronavirus. AYA is in full support of this initiative, and we need your help in encouraging our lawmakers to make it happen.
