Tell your Reps: oppose budget cuts to higher ed!
A few weeks ago, President Trump submitted his FY21 budget request to Congress. The budget sends a very clear message: this Administration doesn’t give a 💩 about students.
The budget proposal includes a whopping 8% cut to Department of Education funding. Specifically, it would:
- cut over $190 billion in higher ed programs that make college more affordable
- make loans more expensive for student borrowers
- cut the work-study program in half
- eliminate the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program
Losing PSLF means many public service workers (teachers, nurses, social workers, etc.) would no longer be able to pursue their passion for service if they carry student debt. Without work-study, many lower-income students would no longer be able to afford college, widening the income inequality gap and shutting out more young people from accessing a higher education degree.
⏰ NOW is the time to take action! ⏰ At a time when the country is facing a student debt crisis of $1.6 trillion, we need more investment in these and other higher education programs, not less. Urge your Reps to reject the FY21 budget proposal!
